Thank you for registering for the National BioLeague. This year's National BioLeague begins with Round 1 on July 11th, 2026. Full timing, round structure, and proctoring details will be shared with registered competitors.

NOTE: You must sign up with a team as soon as possible. If you do not register with a team, we will randomly place you with other competitors who have not registered a team.

  • Round 1 Date: July 11th, 2026
  • Format: National multi-round biology competition
  • Scheduling: Exact round-time instructions sent after signup

Proctoring Requirements

  • Two-device setup: One camera on you, another on your desk and screen
  • Zoom proctoring: Remain on the proctored Zoom call for the full exam
  • Photo ID: Present a valid student ID at check-in or coordinate an alternative in advance

Competition Structure

Round 1: Individual Theoretical Exam (Qualifying Round)

  • Format: Online MCQ exam (50 questions)
  • Topics: Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Anatomy & Physiology, Ecology, Plants
  • Time Limit: 80 minutes
  • Scoring: Automated MCQ scoring, variable points per question
  • Advancement: Top 10% individuals and teams

Round 2: Team/Individual Case Study & Data Analysis (Semifinals)

  • Task: Analyze a biology-based real-world case study (for example epidemiology or conservation biology)
  • Question Types: MCQs and FRQs
  • Time Limit: 2 hours
  • Scoring: Judges evaluate critical thinking, scientific accuracy, and problem-solving; MCQ points vary by difficulty

Round 3: Science Bowl + Comprehensive FRQs (Finals)

  • Format: Science Bowl-style tournament for remaining teams/participants
  • Coverage: Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Anatomy, Physiology, Ecology, Plants, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics
  • Components: Individual and team-based
  • Time Limit: 1-2 hours with timed rapid-fire questions and fixed round duration
  • Scoring: Correct answers earn points; incorrect answers get no points or small penalties; first team to buzz gets priority
